The summer flew by and it's already the first day of school. We were not quite ready, but it was time none-the-less! School shopping was done, clothes, shoes and supplies were purchased and the big day was here! Everyone got up bright-eyed and ready to go. Anxious to see their friends, meet their teachers, get new schedules and see what was in store for them this year! Brandon is now in 8th grade...his last year of middle school....just cannot believe it! Connor is in 7th grade and moving ahead too fast! Austin is in 4th grade...what happened to pre-K?? Anna...a fulltime Kindergartener...and this is our baby! The kids were very lucky to all 4 start the year in brand new schools...clean and new...new books, new desks, new everything! Lots of cool new classroom technology, science rooms, computer labs and so much more! There has been alot of excitement around opening new schools...Couch Middle School and Starling Elementary School. The middle school went from about 2700 to 850 students...BIG change! They miss alot of their friends who are zoned to either their previous Middle School (McConnell) or the other brand new Middle School (Bay Creek). The elementary school went from about 1700 to I think about the 800 mark as well. Significantly smaller number of kids that is for sure! Jeffery and I were anxious all day...wondering how their days were progressing...did they like their teachers...are they making new friends...did they have friends in their classes...how was lunch going...was Anna crying? We were anxiously awaiting 2:45 to pick up Austin and Anna and hear all about the day, then to get the Middle Schoolers to hear all about their news! What a relief when Anna and Austin came out of the doors with HUGE smiles!! We new it had been a great day. To celebrate, we took them to Brusters for a special treat...Brusters is still a treat for this age...thankfully! Then it was time to get the Middle Schoolers...they were standing in the car rider area...looking all cool and talking to friends...it had been a successful first day! Everyone was talking about the highs and lows of the day...99% highs thankfully!! Connor was very pleased with his schedule and was just beaming...it's going to be a great year! Brandon is about 50/50 on his classes...but he's ready to press on and make the best of the not-so-great classes and enjoy the good ones! Austin has the same teacher that Brandon had in 4th grade and he thinks that is pretty cool...he has lots of friends in his class. Anna cried for a minute, but by the time we left, she had already stopped...she came home so happy and excited about the whole day!
All in all it was a GREAT first day!!
